Rohtang tunnel – LoA received on 24th September, 2009

The STRABAG-Afcons JV which was declared as L1, has been issued the ‘Letter of Acceptance’ by the Directorate General Border Roads Organisation on 24th September, 2009 for the above project situated at Rohtang Pass near Manali in Himachal Pradesh.

The project is for the construction of a 8.8 km long, bi-directional traffic dual lane, single bore, highway tunnel of width of 10 mtrs (normally) at finished pavement level by drilling and blasting.

SAFETY AWARD FOR DYWIDAG’S INDIAN OPERATIONS:

On May 3rd, 2009, DYWIDAG’s longtime Indian Client, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) celebrated its 15th Foundation Day at Karmani Auditorium in New Delhi. During this festivity, the “Safety Shield”, DMRC’s newly created safety award for its best contractor with regards to safety performance, was awarded for the first time.

DMRC currently has numerous ongoing construction sites for the establishment of the new metro system in Delhi. These sites are spread all over the city, mostly above, but also some underground sites.

One of these underground sites (BC 18 - underground metro section between Malaviya Nagar and Hauz Khas, 3.2. km twin tunnel and 2 new underground stations) is operated by MTG (Metro Tunneling Group), a joint venture with DYWIDAG International GmbH, Germany, as leading partner. The same group of companies in a similar joint venture has already constructed the 6.8 km long twin tunnel section MC1B underneath the old center of Delhi from Delhi Main to Central Secretariat.

Mr. Chris-Peter Meier, Regional Director of DYWIDAG International GmbH and formerly Project Manager of MTG, together with Mr. Sanjay Mishra, Chief HSE Manager of MTG, took the honor of receiving DMRC’s first Safety Shield award on behalf of MTG from the Lieutenant Governor of New Delhi for MTG’s high safety standards and outstanding safety record.
